6.     Rajiv, a consumer purchased medicines without noticing the date of expiry. He also did not obtain the cash memo. Do you think he will be able to protect himself from the loss caused due to expired medicine? Give reasons to support your answer.

now been changed to CAVEAT VENDITOR(“Let the seller beware”). Why such a radical change has taken place?

    1. 1. The seller, manufacturer or dealer of goods which are defective.

      „Defect‟ means any fault, imperfection or shortcoming in the Quality, quantity or

      purity of goods.

      2. The provider of services if they are deficient in any manner.

      „Deficiency‟ means any imperfection, shortcoming or Inadequacy in the quality,

      nature and manner of performance of Services.

    1. No , Bharat Electricals can not file complaint against seller because according to Consumer Protection Act a person who obtains goods for re-sale or any commercial purpose is not consumer .So Prakhar can file complaint but Bharat Electricals can not.

  11. FPO -Food process order (found on packaged fruit beverages, fruit-jams, crushes and squashes, pickles, dehydrated fruit products, and fruit extracts,)
    ISI - Indian Standards Institute (found on switches, electric motors, wiring cables, heaters, kitchen appliances etc., and other products like portland cement, LPG valves, LPG cylinders, automotive tyres developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS))

  13. Packaged food products sold in India are required to be labelled with a mandatory mark in order to be distinguished between vegetarian and non-vegetarian.According to the law, vegetarian food should be identified by a green dot symbol and non-vegetarian food with a brown dot symbol.

    1. this change has taken place due to increased competition .Now consumers have wider choice and they can shift to some other vendor if they feel that they are cheated or getting bad quality product. For Example : Chemist selling you medicines will ensure that they are not expired before giving it to you. You may or may not check it but chemist knows that he will loose his customer if he is not aware.

  17. esha got an air conditioner as a wedding gift from her sister in the month of october. when she installed the same in her room in march next year,she noticed that it was not working properly. she enquired the details of the shopkeeper from her sister. can esha file a complaint against the shopkeeper. justify your answer

  18. Yes , Esha can file complaint as she is consumer under Consumer Protection Act as she is using the product with the permission of buyer .But she should take Cash Memo from her sister as proof of purchase.
